# Visibility settings

> Controlling how your shared hotspot can be accessed.

When you share a hotspot, you decide how visible and accessible it is. The current beta
app gives you two controls.

<Info>
  This describes the visibility controls in the current build. Finer-grained access is on
  the roadmap.
</Info>

## Publicly available

The **Publicly available** toggle controls whether your hotspot is shared publicly.

* **On**: the hotspot is public and discoverable to others
* **Off**: the hotspot is kept private to you

Use public for connectivity you are happy for others to find and use. Use private for a
hotspot you want to record but not share broadly.

## International access

The **International access** toggle controls whether access from outside the local area
is allowed.

* **On**: allow international access
* **Off**: keep access local

## Setting visibility

You set both toggles when you share a hotspot, on the **Share** tab. You can change a
hotspot's public/private state later from the **Hotspots** tab.

| Setting              | Effect                                                |
| -------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------- |
| Publicly available | Whether the hotspot is shared publicly |
| International access | Whether access from outside the local area is allowed |

<Note>
  Per-user approval and multi-tier access levels are on the roadmap. Today, visibility is
  the two toggles above. See [Product status](/docs/introduction/status).
