# Using the map

> Exploring and navigating the connectivity map in the app.

The **Map** tab is the heart of the app. It shows the hotspots in the New York City
dataset as markers you can browse and tap.

<Info>
  The app is invitation-only beta. The map covers New York City only.
</Info>

## Opening the map

The map is the default view when you open the app. From anywhere else, tap the **Map**
tab to return.

## What you see

The map displays:

* **Hotspot markers**: each marker is a hotspot
* **Your location**: shown if you have granted location access

## Navigating the map

* **Pan**: drag with one finger to move around
* **Zoom**: pinch to zoom in or out
* **Search**: jump to a specific address or place

## Viewing hotspot details

Tap any marker to open its details:

* **Name** and location
* **Speed** (Mbps), **signal** strength, and **network type**
* **Security** and **rating**
* The contributor's **note**

## Filtering

Use the filter controls to narrow what you see — for example by network type or risk
level. Filters help you focus on the hotspots most relevant to you.

<Note>
  The map shows the hotspots in the dataset. If an area looks empty, it means no hotspot
  has been contributed there yet. Live availability status is on the roadmap — see
  [Product status](/docs/introduction/status).
