The Linkr map is the primary interface for discovering and assessing hotspots. It shows hotspots as markers you can browse, filter, and tap for details. The public map is a curated **New York City preview** of 78 hotspots. It is a static dataset, not a live feed. Real-time availability is on the roadmap — see [Product status](/docs/introduction/status). ## What the map shows Each hotspot appears as a marker with associated details: * **Location**: the physical position of the hotspot * **Network type**: Wi-Fi, mobile data, or router * **Signal and security**: strength and protection * **Speed and notes**: advertised speed and contributor notes As you pan and zoom, the map shows the hotspots in view. ## Map vs coverage map Traditional coverage maps show estimated signal strength across an area, based on models and assumptions. The Linkr map shows specific hotspots. Each marker is a real access point (in the beta app) or a sample record (in the public preview), not a prediction. | Coverage map | Linkr map | | ------------------ | ------------------ | | Estimated coverage | Specific hotspots | | Model-based | Contribution-based | | Provider-published | Community-powered | ## Using the map * **Browse**: pan and zoom to explore an area * **Search**: jump to a specific location * **Filter**: narrow by network type or risk * **Select**: tap a hotspot to see its details The map is available on the public web preview and in the beta app. ## Map completeness The map only shows what has been contributed. If an area has no hotspots, the map shows nothing there — not because connectivity is impossible, but because nothing has been contributed yet. Over time, as more people contribute, the map becomes more complete.
