# First-time experience

> What to expect when you open the Linkr beta app for the first time.

When you open the Linkr app, you land on the map. This is the starting point for
everything.

## The four tabs

The app is organized into four tabs:

* **Map**: the connectivity map, showing hotspots in the New York City dataset
* **Share**: create and share a hotspot of your own
* **Hotspots**: the hotspots you have shared
* **Profile**: your details and settings

## Exploring the map

The map opens on New York City. You can:

* Pan and zoom to move around
* Tap a hotspot marker to open its details
* Search for a location

Tapping a marker shows the hotspot's name, speed, signal strength, network type,
security, rating, and any note the contributor left.

## Sharing your first hotspot

To contribute a hotspot, go to the **Share** tab:

1. Give the hotspot a name
2. Choose whether to use your current location
3. Pick a network type: **Wi-Fi**, **Mobile data**, or **Router**
4. Set whether it is **publicly available**, and whether to **allow international access**
5. Tap **Share Hotspot**

Your hotspot is saved and appears under the **Hotspots** tab.

  In the current beta, the hotspots you create are stored on your device. Server-side
  accounts and syncing are on the roadmap — see [Product status](/docs/introduction/status).
